Abstract
Watercolour Painting entitled "Why" Depicts four men in hats standing in foreground, internment camp barracks and watchtower at very top in the background and a multitude of flying birds in the middle with abstract coils of barbed wire on either side. Wash of muted green, indigo blue, and sienna on rough textured heavy weight watercolour paper. The internment camp buildings, electrical poles, guard tower with search light and men are drawn with pen and ink. Three standing birds and the flying birds are white and dark grey. The edges of the painting are in lighter values of the broad vertical washes. The artist has signed the back in pencil with the title, his name, and date with a copyright symbol, "'Why?', Lee J. Wexler, 1977 c" and the lower left front with his name and date.
