Collar - Artifacts

Description
Silk crepe neckpiece with embroidery. Neckpiece worn as an inside collar with kimono. Beige silk crepe strip with satin stitch embroidery in two places. Embroidery is lavender and white clover with some embroidered beige straight lines to add to the pattern. The piece is not hemmed on the sides, but is woven to the size for this particular use. Called "jubanerigae" in Japanese. Worn by a doctor's wife in the Meiji Period, probably around 1860's.
