Description
Wood frame with gesso underground with painted lacquer surface. Curved horn-shaped roundels on top. Two stretcher bars on legs. Top is scholars in courtyard. Flowers, birds, and landscape decoration on sides and legs. Extensive lacquer chipping with exposed wood, some warping of back legs. Recommend restoration or stabilization of table. Considerable correspondence on item. Attribution by De Young Museum's Asian Art Department. WLAM's appraisal is $3,000.00. Should be verified. Owners purchased it in San Francisco in 1935 from the Oppenheimer estate in Santa Barbara. Owner believes it to have come from a tomb.
