Hat - Artifacts

Description
Black velvet Chinese winter hat. It has a black velvet upturned brim. The crown is black satin. There is a red satin circle of cord fringes radiating from the peak of the crown. A stiff upside-down "U" loop is at the center of the hat. From a picture in _Chinese Dress_ by Verity Nelson, p.28, it appears that the loop would hold a pinial in place. The inside is lined with red muslin. The muslin has some bleached-out spots on the lining. There is a character stamped inside it. These hats were sold at the Alaska-Yukon fair in 1910. The King family had the concession rights for the Chinese exhibit.
