Basket - Artifacts

Description
Four stages of making a hexagonal basket (A) Height: 19", Circumference: 16.75" (widest) 12 strands of bamboo bent to form basic basket shape. Bamboo is held in place by fine metal wire. Bottom has beginning of weaving. (B) Height: 19", Circumference: 13" 12 strands of bamboo forming basic basket shape bent around bottom, then 1 strand is worked horizontally from bottom to top. (C) Height: 10.125", Cirumference: 12.75" Projecting ends of bamboo are then turned back on themselves and woven through horizontal bamboo strand. Now ends are projecting out at bottom of basket. (D) Height: 7.75", Circumference: 12.75" Ends are woven into bottom of basket. A strand of bamboo is woven over and under around top of basket to finish edge. A thin reed is attached for handing the basket. The artist's name is scratched on the bamboo under the hanger. (E) Height: 7.125", Circumference: 5.75" Black lacquer bamboo container for water.
