Basket - Artifacts

Description
Oval shaped woven reed basket, dark brown color. The flattened base of the basket is shaped by a split piece of bamboo, 5/8" wide, pointed at both ends, running the length of the bottom, about 15.25" long. At right angles to this piece of bamboo are three similar pieces of bamboo, one in the center of the base, the other two at intervals of 3.625" and 4" respectively from the center piece, each about 8.5" long. The top of the basket has an inner braided rim of reed and two outer rows of reed wrapped around pieces of reed running the full circumference of the basket. The use of the basket is unknown, but a flat basket of this type could be used for holding fruit, vegetables, etc. or possibly flowers or as a purely decorative object.
