Description
Brass clothes iron of conventional hand iron shape. Handle is rough finished yellow brass, boltedto iron. Grip is red-painted wood, notice at ends to fit handle; fixed with nails through handle. Catch which securs swivel top of iron is of same brass as a handle, shaped like a rooster. External components of iron are cast brass; top is secured to bottom by a hinge- rod that passed through ears at the rear of both top and bottom. Top has a scalloped lower edge. Botttom has several holes on each side near base. Plus one elongated hole at the end. Latter is covered by a bolted-on aluminun swivel plate; hole is for emptying charcoal ash from the bottom's cavity. Charcoal provided heat for ironing. A cast iron tray ( 6" x 3" x 3/4" ) fits inside cavity to keep burning material from contact with brass floor. Note: Collected in Laos, 1962-1964
