Medal - Artifacts

Description
A. Military Medal. At the top it has a pin with a flat metal backing which has a small hole in the lower left corner and in the lower right corner and a long narrow opening at the top. The metal surrounding the sides of this opening is curved. A piece of ribbon gathers trhough a metal ring with about a 1/2" diameter to form a u-shape at the bottom of the ribbon which is thus folded in half with the ends meeting at the top. The ends of the ribbon wrap around the top of the pin's metal backing, through the narrow opening at the top and their corners are then sewn together, being attached also to part of the body of the ribbon which is folded back upon and to the metal backing through the holes in the corners of the metal piece. The ribbon is horizontally ribbed and vertically striped with a central redd band flanked by two rainbow colored bands. A circular metal piece with a 1 3/8" diameter has a knob at its top with a hole to attach to the circular metal ring so that the metal piece lies flat with the ribbon. The front side of the circular metal piece has been cast with an image of a standing woman holding the two parts of a broken sword, one in each hand. She also has one foot standing on a helmet which has a sun coming out from behind it. The rays of the sun estend out behind her. The words "World/War II" also flank her sides. On the reverse side of the metal piece is cast around the outside of the circle "United States of America 1945 1941" in a clockwise placement. The center reads "Freedom/from Fear and Want" and "Freedom of Speech and Religion" with a piece of a plant lying horizontally between.Medal measurements: 1 3/8" x 3". B. Military pin associated with the medal. It has a pin with a flat rectangular backing. This rectangular metal piece then fits into another flat rectangular piece of thinner metal whose long sides bend upward, folding over the first piece by about 1/16". Held between the two metal pieces are the ends of a ribbon which wraps around the outside of the second metal piece. The ribbon is horizontally ribbed and vertically striped in the same manner as the ribbon of the medal. C. Lid to the Blue box. It has a white sticker on one of its short ends with blue print which notes the type of the medal as "Medal, Campaign and Service/Victory World War II," the stock number, and the company making the medal. The short end opposite to this one has a semi-circular cut, centered along the bottom edge. On one of the long sides of the lid, approximately half of the side has been detached from the lid and remains connected only at the corner. Various areas of the blue have been worn away and are now white. D. Box bottom. It is blue except for the bottom interior which is off-white. Various areas of the blue on this piece have also worn away to reveal white. Box measurements: 2 1/4" x 3 3/4". E. Stiff paperboard which fits into the box to attach the medal for keeping. It has a blue velvet-like surface. At its top is a round tab which folds downward, 3/8" from the side with the tab is a cut in the board with a circular hole at teither end for the attachment of the medal's pin.
