Pin - Artifacts

Description
U. S. Army discharge lapel pin. Shiny gold-plated metal lapel pin, formed of two circular disks connected on their borad sides by a cylindrical metal piece attachedto the center of each disk. The bottom of teh lwoer disk has a slight ridge along its outer edge and a slightly raised circle in the center. The top of the upper disk has a ring around its outer edge and an eagle with outstretched wings standing within the ring. The eagle's left wing is shown in front of the ring, while the eagle's right wing is shown behind the ring. The top half of the ring is plain; the bottom half of the ring is striped, alternating raised, smooth, vertical bands with slightly depressed, vertically striated bands. Some of the gold-plating has come off on the eagle and part of the ring of the upper disk and on the bottom of the lower disk. The lwoer disk with the cylindrical metal piece appears to be cast in one piece with the upper disk adjoined later.
