High ranking seated Samurai figure with removable head, hat, sword and 2 cushions A: Head, H: 7", W: 4", D: 4.25" Black fiber hair gathered at the top of the head with white cotton cord wound around for 1", shaven forehead, long sideburns extend below the jawline, inset brown iris eyes, fierce expression, pink tinted gofun dipped head, black painted eyebrows, hairline, unshaven chin and upper lip, tightly purse mouth painted red, two wrinkles on bridge of nose, puffy under eyes, eagle shaped nose. B: Body, H: 22", W: 16", D: 10.5" Sitting posture, wearing purplish brown and gold silk brocade outer robe in a wavy design called tatewaku (representing snake, worn by aristocrats) and between the wavy lines is a gold lion decorated with tortoise shell design, white peonies with gold border. Two outer garments are open to the waist so that his chest plate shows. Hakama pants are made of the same material, tied at the waist with white damask belt in a bow at the front. Next undergarment is only visible at the collar: white and gold silk and paper brocade. Beneath is body armor. Three off-white silk collars visible beneath the armor. Chest armor is made of paper mache with a gold border and woven two toned blue and white cord. Below this is a 3 rows of gold corrugated breast plate pieces laced with flat green braid, suspended by shoulder straps fastened with silver boss in a flower shape. Faded gold cord knotted lanyard extends on either side at the shoulders to his lap. Gold colored armor plate made of paper mache covers the backs of his hands, laced with black cord; blue crepe padded string wrapped around both wrists and tied in a knot holds the armor. Underneath the gold armor pieces extending up to his elbow and black chain is navy blue and silver brocade in water designs. Right hand is gripped with thumb and finger together and left hand fingers are slightly bent; made of carved wood covered with white gofun. On his feet are fiber "bear fur" shoes with decorated gold and purple brocade toes with leaf design. Shoes made of wood painted black and on the soles is a textured black substance and instep has vine decorated paper cover bordered with beige woven cord Long sleeves are open in the front showing beige silk damask lining. The end of the sleeve is decorated with faded yellow braid which is knotted once with loose ends. C: Pillow, L: 10.125", W: 4.5", D: 1.75" Long cushion, padded with cotton wadding, wire inside used inside right sleeve to hold it in place. Dark beige silk shantung cover sewed together on all sides. D: Pillow, L: 11", W: 6.5" at one end, 4.75" at the other, D: 1" Odd shaped cushion, padded with cotton wadding, wire inside used inside left sleeve to hold it in place. Off-white satin silk material. E: Eboshi Hat, H: 1.875",W: 1.25", D: 2.75" Made of paper mache painted with black lacquer, crinkley texture, holes on either side at front or yellow twisted cord, 25.5" long F: Sword, L: 11.5", W: 1", D: .625" Made of wood and metal, copper alloy tip at end of scabbard and 2 metal bands at lower portion, 2 metal bands under metal sword guard; white crushed rock finished handle with carved metal decorative pieces, handle tip has fish shaped decorative piece, mouth holds a gray and blue cord with knot and metal tips. Japanese male doll representing a Feudal Lord (Daimyo). The fur covered boots indicate the person depicted lived before the end of the Heian period (794- 1185 A.D.)
