Doll - Artifacts

Description
Small male doll representing a seated nobleman, probably for Girl's Day festival display. His head, dipped in gofun, has finely carved features, shiny white face, painted eyes and mouth, painted black hair and is inclined forward. His painted wood right hand is raised toward his face and his left hand is concealed by his kimono sleeve. He wears a black eboshi hat of rigid fabric (a cap shape with a tall extension in the back). His upper kimono is beige silk brocade with floral patterns in gold, orange, blue and green; black waistband in back held with small copper nails; lower part of robe is lined with black paper. His hakama pantsare of gold silk damask with floral patterns. In the front hangs a narrow apron (hirao) of brocade which ends in a thread fringe. His under kimono of white and gold brocade show at the neck and wrists. The costume is faded mostly in the front and the mauve lining of the upper kimono is frayed. His hat is slightly worn in the back.
