Doll - Artifacts

Description
Hina Matsuri Empress Doll A: Head, separate, made of molded wood paste dipped in "gofun" (crushed oyster shells), black painted hairline, eyebrows, two dots on forehead, painted red mouth, inset glass eyes; black fiber hair with brown hair underneath, tied in "tamamusubi" style, white thread on top of head, colored thread in back. B: Body in kneeling position with no hands and feet showing. At neckline are 7 white silk damask undercollars. Stiffened blue gauze damask straps overlap in front with a white silk damask bow and are attached in back to a piece of paper and cotton woven fabric. An orange silk damask sleeveless top and sleeve strips have floral design. Outer kimono of green silk brocade with white medallions and gold line design; wide padded sleeves with white damask bands in Buddhist cross design outlined with red silk piping large red silk crepe cuffs with embroidered phoenix in 2 shades of blue, white green and orange. Back shows padded layers of four white damask and one green kimono with red silk crepe lining; piece of red printed white gauze attached at waist covers these padded layers. C: Crown of stamped metal has on top a phoenix shape with aluminum Buddhist flame, circular body has a chrysanthemum on front. Peach colored and blue beads and metal shapes dangle from wires attached to sides and top. D: Head, separately set on a wooden peg, made of molded wood paste dipped in "gofun", painted black eyebrows and two dots on forehead, painted red mouth, inset glass eyes; black silk thread hair drawn up and tied in a top knot held with a purple cord bow. E: Body in kneeling position with arms crooked toward center, no feet showing. 7 white damask collars and one red and brown collar showing at neckline. Outer robe of green silk brocade with white medallions and gold line design with stand-up collars and off-center opening. Bands at sleeve edge of under kimonos, 1 red damask, 1 blue damask with gold medallions, 2 white damask in Buddhist knot design lined with blue silk (one is padded). Front "apron" of blue and orange brocade covered with 3 padded and tied borders, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 brown and a orange rectangle on top covered with gold thread. At back is fastened a black leather belt over a white silk rectangle in Buddhist knot design bordered with purple and brown material. White hakama. F: Hat made of black lacquered paper in round cap shape with a rounded extension rising at the back and a crosspiece protruding from it, tied under chin with red cord.
