Doll - Artifacts

Description
Set of 5 musician dolls for Hina Matsuri display Doll 1: 4.75x5.75" A: Separate head on peg made of molded wood paste dipped in gofun; gray painted eyebrows, inset black eyes, black fiber hair tufts tied on both sides of shaved head. Black lacquered paper hat is glued to head, boat shaped with triangle on crown, tied with purple and white silk cord. B: Body, kneeling with painted carved wood hands held out in front of chest. Outer robe and hakama of white, yellow, purple and blue on khaki silk brocade in floral and phoenix pattern, lined with pale green silk; purple silk shows at sides of hakama. 3 white, 1 pale green, 1 red collars show at neckline. Underrobe of khaki on red brocade shows at neckline and sleeve openings. Doll 2: 4.25x5.75", C: Head same as doll 1 except that he has a full head of hair with side tufts and there is a crack in the gofun across the face. Triangular piece is broken off the hat. D: Body same as doll 1 except that the left hand is position lower, above lap. Doll 3: 4x4.5" E: Head same as doll 2 except he has no side hair tufts (cracked face) F: Body same as doll 2 except that left hand is raised and fingers of both hands are curved. G: Hat which has come off of circular wire on head is the same style as doll 1. Doll 4: 5.5x5: H: Head same as doll 3 except hair is longer and face has no cracks. I: Body seated on a black lacquered cylinder, right arm is stretched out to the side. Costume is the same as doll 3 J: Hat is the same as doll 3 except that the triangular piece on top is gone. K: Drum glued to right hand has a black lacquered wood spindle in center, paper drum heads on either end which are beige with black design, and bound with red cord, called a Tsutsumi drum Doll 5: 5.75x4.75" L: Head same as doll 1 with tied hair tufts on sides of head and hat glued to head; crack under chin. M: Body seated on cylinder is the same as doll 4 except that left arm is raised in front with a drum glued to the hand and the right arm is crooked in front N: Seat, cylinder shape with spiral grooves, black lacquered wood with a metal pin protruding which fits into the doll O: Drum glued to left hand, wood stem has gold spots on black lacquer, paper drum heads are white with black design, tied with gold colored cord. Drum stem is broken; called a Tsutsumi drum. Accessories for set of 5 court musician dolls P-S: Swords, L-2.5", in scabbards made of wood with black lacquered bottoms, white painted tops and gold painted knobs and guards. 3 swords (P,Q,R) are curved and 1 (S) is straight. T: Baton with red lacquered thread wrapped around a black wooden stick. U: Drum, 2.5x2x.75", with a short stem and wide round drum heads made of paper mache, stem is black lacquer and drum heads on inside are painted gold while the outside of the drum heads are white bordered with black lacquer, drum is bound with red cord. Attached to a broken plain wooden stand which has two cross bars, two post attached by pieces of wood to the drum stem and a piece of wood attached to the cross bar extending out the back . (See photo on p. 105 of vol. 7 of Japanese craft series in museum library) There are also 3 broken pieces of wood of unknown use: 2 are 1.25" long, 1 is black lacquered and the other unfinished wood (possibly drum sticks) One piece is .5" long, black lacquered
