Palanquin - Artifacts

Miniature Court Palanquin (Kago) with 2 umbrellas for Hina Matsuri Display A: Palanquin mounted on platform, lacquered wood, two roofs, upper roof is made of two pieces of black lacquered wood, painted gold rim and vine design held together with a panel of gold on red silk brocade; upper roof sits on top of shoulder bar which extends beyond ends of palanquin, black lacquer with gold painted vine and peonies on front, stamped silver end protectors; lower roof sits on palanquin made of black lacquered wood with painted gold vine design, gold painted edges with silver corner and center straps; body of palanquin has painted gold vine design on black lacquer, two gold peonies at bottom, windows covered with gold and red brocade and red and white tassels on three sides, faux doors on one side, stamped silver straps at corners and center; sits on two black lacquered stools with gold painted sides; palanquin and two gold painted posts are tied with red cord to a black lacquered base with a red silk center. B: Umbrella which fits into side post with straps; black lacquered handle, gold on red brocade top cover with red and white cord and tassels and black paper edge. C: Umbrella identical to "B"
