Samurai Doll, high ranking with arrow quiver A: Separate head moulded from wood paste and dipped in gofun. Painted features and eyes: Painted mouth, eyebrows, and hairline front and back. Eyes are set in glass. Head is separate with a hole in the bottom of neck with a protruding rail on which head fits into body. Hair: Black synthetic pulled back from face and neck ending in a fluffed-out knot at top of head, tied with fine wrapped paper string. B: Body: Posture- Standing with right foot slightly forward. Arms are bent at the elbow and held in front of the body with right arm at chest level. Left hand is lower. Hands with fingers bent as though holding something (missing). Clothing: Front armour is laced with bright blue, orange, white and patterned lacing of white, purple and green. Between lacing is black lacquer and gold paint on paper mache to represent metal. The top row of the chest armour is navy blue background with white circular pattern. The top and sides of that row is bordered with purple and white herring bone cord. The breast plate is fastened to a purple heavy paper piece that goes over shoulders and across top of bag. It is fastened with purple cord and two white toggles at each side. There are six panels of laced armour suspended from his waist which hang below knees. At the back attached to the purple paper piece is an armour panel with a ring attached to a metal boss at each upper corner. In the center of the armour is an embossed metal plate to which an orange braided cord is attached by a ring. It ties in a four-squared knot with two tassels. Tied at the shoulders with multi-colored cords is an armored panel in each side. About half-way down is a metal bar with a ring on one end for an orange cord with a tassel on one end. The cord is looped and tied with the central orange cord. Around the waist over the armor is tied a white fabric band, knotted in the front. On his arms are tied separate pieces of armor painted black to resemble metal, laced with red cord and purple lacing and black leather plastic lacing. At the elbows are chain armour for flexibility. The armour extends over the back of his hands with a separate piece over the thumb. He wears gloves and under the hand is a heavy cloth padding. Around his wrists are tied flat braid of purple green and white. Overrobe is purple brocade with a dragon pattern in gold. Inner robe and hakama are brocade with brown background and floral pattern in beige, orange, gray and blue-green . He has three white undercollars. There are three separate pieces of black metal to protect front and sides of leg below the knee. They are laced together at the lower edge. White flat braid is wound around the leg armour at top and lower and tied in the front. He wears tabi of navy blue with same white circular pattern as seen at top of armour. He wears straw sandals and stands on natural wood platform. The corners of the platform are indented. Accessories: He carries a brocade arrow bag on his back . Gray floral pattern on a red-orange background with an occasional purple flower. A shaded blue and gray braided cord slung across his chest and under his arm holds the bag. Short sword L: 4.5", is tied on white cloth sash with flat white, purple and green braid. The sword handle and cover trim is gold metal. Scabbard is black metal. Long Sword L: 11", tied on to white waist sash with olive green flat braid attached to sword at two metal loops which encircle scabbard. Sword handle is gold metal mesh-like in the center with metal decoration. From end is a metal loop with purple cord and metal ends hanging from it . Sword gard is a large oval shape with wavy edges. Inner decoration of copper colored metal. Sword is black metal with gold metal end and gold decoration encircling it part way. Condition: Doll seems quite new and in good condition although whatever he was holding in his hands is missing.
