Doll - Artifacts

Boy's Day Doll (Musha Ningyo) Takeda Style, A: Figure with head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun. Painted feature and eyes with molded mouth which is also painted. Eyebrows are inserted fiber. Face and hands are white. Hands are carved wood. Feet are grey painted wood with raised big toe. Hair is made of bast fiber in an off-white color and the style is pulled back from front and sides and held by an off white thread wrapped around hair at upper back of head which is bald. Chin whiskers of finer fiber. The figure is standing with right leg out at side angle. Left leg knee bent with foot back and on a boat. Shoulders are at an angle with left shoulder raised higher. He wears a kariginu (hunting coat), sleeveless, covers back and front above waist with an apron on front, with separate sleeves, not worn on arms but hanging down at back sides Fabric is gold silk brocade with wheel and floral design in blue and beige. Kimono sleeves are gold silk gauze with couching of gold thread. Green silk gauze border on sleeves. Hakama is woven gold silk and paper. White damask band around waist ends hang down with dark blue brocade ends backed with paper. Below hakama legging is grey painted at back. Front legging is gold fabric with cardboard strips with a black velvet fabric band around ankle. Double padded gold fabric under collar. Arrows: Four arrows (6") of painted cardboard feathers on brown sticks in a brocade covered cardboard holder stuck in the back of his white belt visible over right shoulder. His left foot is on a small cardboard boat., grey on one side. Inner side has painted blue waves and white band along top edge. Prow is painted black. In his left hand is unknown object possibly a lantern of molded sawdust and painted brown and white with a hole. Black painted wood stand with khaki color painted corners and edges. On front is cutout of rolling pin shape. It is backed with gold fabric with couching of gold thread in a branch pattern. B: Fan (Gunbai Uchiwa) Military Fan. Grey painted cardboard with cutout ribs on brown stick held in right hand. Condition: Fabric is in very poor condition. Back of left sleeve is completely gone. Object in left hand is in very bad condition. Paint coming off boat.
