Doll - Artifacts

Description
Doll representing Empress Jingu A: Separate head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder), set in glass eyes, painted high black eyebrow smudges, painted black eyelid, painted red parially open lips exposing black upper teeth; dipple in lower chin. Painted black hairline, black straight fiber hair tied together at back of neck. Metal peg projects down. B: Standing figure wearing red brocade, wood hands with curved fingers rest in front of waist. Wears full armour on chest, back, shoulders and legs made of papier mache painted in grey laced with cotton rust colored cord; Breastplate has 3 metal bands alternating with laced cord and a metal motif of chrysanthemum at top with a pierced metal design of Shippo Tsunagi (7 Buddhist treasures) in front of mirror which is repeated at the ends of all armour panels, circular metal crest with a dragon at center front, breastplate is supported by green felt straps outlined with black and white braid. Upper back is solid black papier mache armour held by green straps, in the center is a silvery metal boss in shape of a chrysanthemum and a ring in the center. Imitation tiger fur panels on ivory and orange paper/silk hang down the front under armour.Two cloud-shaped layered shoulder epaulets are orange and gold brocade with a vine design with light brocade edging and black and white braid. Outer kimono is scarlet cotton and silk brocade with peony, chrysanthemum and lightening design in acqua, white, pink, purple and tarnished gold. Kimono sleeves are stiffened and lining is ivory damask. Under kimono in blue silk and paper brocade with muted orange chrysanthemums shows at sleeve. Blue cotton cord ties faded orange and gold paper/cloth brocade underrobe. Silk pants have a gold trianglar design (kase guruma-wind mill) on tan. Padded red and gold brocade belt in a cloud design, knotted in front. Gold papier mache hand guards. Footwear made of wood, covered with brick colored cotton fabric with supplemental weft in gold/brown paper thread woven in vine and floral motife; narrow blue and gold band wraps around the shoe; synthetic black long fur is tucked around the toe; on the soles are white thumb tacks. C: Papier mache eboshi hat with a wrinkled surface painted in gold with black inside; 11.375" purple silk cord with tassels in white and purple.
