Doll - Artifacts

Description
Doll representing Japanese Muromachi Noble A: Separate head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder); molded ears, high bridge nose, closed mouth; painted black eyebrows, dark line underneath left eye, two large dark spots on forehead (symbol of nobility), painted red lips; inset glass eyes with black irises; black fiber hair pulled up into top knot and secured with cotton thread. Wooden spike at bottom of neck to attach to body. B: Body of figure standing erect with arms outstretched, right hand open, left hand with fingers and thumb held in ring shape (holding sword braid). Body stuffed with straw and paper. Clothing consists of outer robe made of brown cotton and paper brocade with yellow, blue, green and orange chrysanthemums and ducks, open at front, 3/4 length, large open sleeves and a pleated beige/brown checked cotton wide collar, faced with yellow rep silk inside front which shows as piping at the front edges. The kimono beneath is white damask with collar crossed over ample stomach at front, padded sleeves show underneath outer robe; 4 white collars of underkimonos show at neck and are held in place with a rusty nail. Purple damask silk baggy pants are gathered at the ankle and cover the white kimono. Around the waist is a white stiffened cotton obi with a flat bow in front holding a folded double hanging strip in place; the ends are made of brown/beige/white cotton brocade. Feet molded of wood paste and dipped in white gofun depicting tabi socks. Figure stands with left foot forward, right foot back, attached by wood pegs and glue to green silk covered base with a black lacquered frame. C: Tachi sword, L: 5.5" with rusted metal blade has a molded black plastic handle imitating a sword guard, wrapped braid with boss and cap, hole at the end for hanging. D: Scabbard for sword, L: 4.5" made of molded dark brown plastic? with imitation metal bands and cap; white silk braided cord runs through two rings on side and is tied through the left hand of the doll. E: Eboshi hat, H: 1.75", W: 1.5", D: 3", made of black lacquered textured paper, elongated with knotched shape in front; space dyed purple and white silk flat braid is knotted and glued to top of hat, stitched to sides with white thread and knotted ends fit under chin. Condition: Black scrape mark on center forehead, chipped gofun on ears, cracked index finger on right hand, small piece broken off left food; threadbare pants; rusty sword blade
