Doll - Artifacts

Description
Boy's Day Doll depicting a Low Rank Samurai Figure is kneeling on right knee with left foot forward, right arm is raised. Head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder), painted black eyebrows thicker on outside, black painted eyes, open mouth has painted red lips and tongue, white painted upper and lower teeth, gray paint around mouth indicated unshaven condition. Black silk fiber hair is left hanging down from bald pate. Carved wood hand is dipped in gofun, curved fingers of right hand hold a weapon. Clothing consists of brown armour made of paper board, back plate is painted in rust brown, shoulders and breast plate armour is textured with sand; three tiered shoulder armour laced with dark green cotton cord and has a diamond cut out metal edging. Beige paper epaulets with a crackling decoration in green and gold. Attached to these on either side are long cotton and metallic thread decoratively knotted cords ending in tassels tied with plain beige thread. Breastplate has a gray metal ring motif (snake eye mon), at the top is a metal diamond cut out decoration (lightening shape), two metal bands above and below the mon. Around the waist is orange silk sash. Underneath the armour shows a garment with a moss green paper and cotton sleeves, a off-white and green cord tied around the wrists. Hand guards made of black cotton gauze. Plaid hakama made of brown, grey and greenish blue cotton are tucked into knee high shin guards. Shin guards have vertical black painted metal slats; with green fabric and behind the calves are painted black. Brown painted wooden feet; blue and white dirty cord is tied around left ankle. In his right hand he holds a long spear, L: 18.25", tan feathers on three sides at the top, black painted round shaft with red band below the feathers, at the lower end is a triangle shaped point with 5-point star design cut out of the center. Condition: Right foot is chewed up, paint missing from right leg, paint chipping from armour, metal trim is off of the left shoulder armour panel, feathers have been chewed by insects.
