Doll - Artifacts

Description
Doll of historical figure Kato Kiyomasa A: Doll with head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder), tan color flesh, slighted tilted toward and looking toward his left. Painted black eyebrows upward at ends, painted black mustache, painted black eyelashes, painted red lips with white upper teeth; set-in glass eyes; two wrinkles at bridge of nose, creases at eyes and mouth. Hairline crack on forehead. Hair is painted black with bald pate, black fiber hair has fallen off, topknot tied with white cord has fallen off (stored in plastic bag), originally inserted in hole in top of head. Standing figure with right leg in front, arms bent at elbows, hands with curled fingers; dark hands with white fingernails. Attire is Suama style with Naga-bakama pants. Black worn satin kimono and hakama with large white "snake eye" motif in white satin ring with gold trim, on sleeves and back. Underneath outer garment is gold brocade robe with bright gold crane and floral design. Underneath this is chest armour laced with flat silk green braid; armour is made of painted gold paper mache. Off-white silk habutae undergarment visible at the collar and sleeve opening. Tied bands around wrists are padded light blue silk. Arm guards are wrapped tightly around forearm, appears to be woven paper and silk in blue and gold. Underneath the nagabakama isa belt in ivory and gold paper and silk. Sleeve lining is of off-white silk with stiffener applied. Interfaced with paper. B: Helmet: Kazaori eboshi made of paper mache painted black, rippled surface with stiffened off-white silk band tied in bow around bottom edge with green silk cord done in "Chidori" stitch on top of band; silk purple cord extends from two holes and ties under chin with fringe. In front is a metal trident (hoe-shape). C: Sword: L: 5.25", D: .25", thin wood blade painted dark green gray, handle is covered with decorative paper with white pebbly material surface, brass bosses attached on both sides, metal band at base of handle. D: Scabbard: L: 4.625", D: .5", wood in rounded flat shape, ridge in upper section painted in black, black at bottom and middle is painted speckled brown. E: Folding Fan: L: 4", black lacquer wood frame with folding paper, one side painted gold and one side painted silver. Loose peg and torn paper.
