Doll - Artifacts

Description
Doll depicting a seated old man A: Separate head molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder), pinkish cheeks and crown, painted red lips, set-in glass eyes, curved eyebrow with inset white silk fiber; wrinkles on forehead and around eyes and mouth. White silk fiber hair pulled up in topknot. B: Body in sitting position with knees bent, left foot on ground and sole of right foot upward, left arm rests on left knee and right hand is spread widely. Clothing consists of a mustard colored silk satin kimono with orange silk crepe lining showing at front sleeve opening. Beneath is a green and off-white collar showing around the neck. Off-white silk organdy hakama pants are tied in the front at his waist and 2 panels hang from his waist. Carved wooden feet are dipped in gofun and are bare. Condition: Hair missing from left eyebrow, chipped finger, paint peeling from feet and hands where the wood paste has deteriorated, hairline crack on head.
