Description
Basketry Hardhat The helmet is made of wicker woven with a single weaver over double spokes in plain weave. The edge of the brim and the base of the crown are twined. Three off-white cotton twill loops are slipped through the slits of black curved triangular-shaped leather tags. The 6 black leather tags are rivetted to the brim. The suspended khaki cotton twill band is sewn to the off-white tapes and off-white cord string is tied through the 3 loops. An off-white cotton twill chin strap has an aluminum buckle and "D" rings at both ends. D-rings are wrapped with rusted metal flat pieces, which are slotted into the slits of the leather tags. Inside the crown, 4 split strips of bamboo are crossed for reinforcement. The donor obtained the hardhat on a Shanghai dock.
