Description
CYLINDRICAL BASKET made of flat split grass, various weaves, patterned border Spokes of split grass are crossed over in a star configuration in the center of the basket bottom. A small circle has been formed around the star by twining. There are 2 other concentric circles. On the outside the effect is decorative; inside the basket additions of split grass are noticeable. The decorative concentric circle patterns have been made by weaving over more than 1 spoke at a time. The side of the basket has been highly, yet subtlely decorated. On the top half of the side, there are 2 stripes of twining made by reversing the weave. There are also patterns made by weaving darker and lighter colored grasses together to form motifs. (Grasses are faded somewhat) Directly under the basket rim there are chevrons horizontally circling around the side of the basket. The bottom edge of all the chevrons meet a stripe. Underneath this stripe is a thinner stripe and then another stripe that is the same thickness as the original one. There are 2 sets of diagonal lines that point towards each other; separated by a horizontal stripe, pointing in oppo- site direction of chevrons. Final stripe near bottom edge of basket. The rim is of bamboo wrapped with grass. Lozenge shaped design circles rim.
