Description
Figure carved from a brown stained, polished piece of wood. The figure stands on a carved base with a lion dog at the left, posibly a candle holder, in shape of a sun flower with a Chinese character inscription of "Sun" carved in the center of the flower. The figure looks down to the dog with his mouth slightly opened. He has long earlobes and hair; he wears a pair of earrings, loose robe exposing his right shoulder and chest, a scarf draping and framing his left side head and shoulder, and a necklace with a peandant. His abdomen sticks out slightly. His garment below his waist is split at right front and gathered. His undergarment comes below his knees and is tied. He is barefooted and wears ankle bracelets. His left leg rests on the dog's back. He is pulling a rope from the dog's mouth. The other end of the rope is tied into a bow below the book which has a floral petal motif and 4 corners are carved in a similar motif. The dog looks up to the figure. The figure's left arm is extended and his right arm is bent with both hands grasping the rope. Both the figure and the dog have inlaid glass eyes. 3 pads are glued to the bottom of the figure.
