Description
Miniatures for Girls' Day display including a palace wagon and stool, palanquin, chest of drawers, jewel boxes, mirror stand, sewing kit, food container and stand, bowls, and magic wand. A: Miniature palace wagon and stool attached to a light weight wooden platform dovered by red silk damask with red cotton thread. The wagon is made of wood. Ai: A miniature palace wagon is painted in black with gold pine branch design. It has one wheel (one is missing), 2.25" long black and gold painted pull has red and white cords wrapped around and tied at the front. Gold painted beam is attached at the center of the roof horizontally, extends upwardly at both ends. The roof display side are decorated with cherry blossoms. The missing wheel is on the display side. The front entry/exit opening and side windows are covered with yellow gross grained fabric. It appears they are pasted on. The style of the wagon is Chosen according to the rider's rank in the court. The wagon is pulled by ox. L: 4"; W: 2"; H: 2.125" Aii: A miniature stool is painted in black with gold pine branch design. Outsides of four legs are painted in gold while insides are painted black. It is used for riders to get in and out of the wagon. L: 1"; W: 7/16"; H: 5/8" Aiii: A wooden base is covered with a red damask silk, design of four-lightening design. Items Ai and Aii are attached to this base. B: Miniature palanquin. Bi: A miniature palanquin painted in black with gold design of pine branches, circle, and cherry blossoms is made of wood tied to the base by red cotton thread, has three windows which are marked by pasted yelow gross grained silk squares. Display side shows part of a floral design below the window. The handles extend 1.25" at both ends displaying floral (cherry blossoms) pattern on displaying side while the reverse side has three dots pine branch pattern. Bii: The removable roof sits on Bi above, made of two paneled wood; the rim is black with gold raised three dots decoration; the roof proper is covered with red and gold checkered brocade. It is tied to the palanquine (Bi) with orange cord. Biii: A set of two miniature benches painted in black with raised three dots gold designs, working as stands for the palanquin. It is made of wood. Bv, vi: A set of two miniature posts with four legged support is made of wood, painted in gold on display sides, black on the reverse sides. Four legs are painted in black with raised gold three dot design. They are pasted on base at each end of the palanquin. These posts act as a stand for large umbrellas. They appeared to be missing. Bvii: The base is made of wood and covered with red silk damask of four-lightenings design. C: Miniature chest of drawers, a set of two jewel boxes called Tama-te-bako in Japanese, and a chest attached to the base. L: 4"; W: 1 1/16"; H: 1 3/4" Ci: A four drawer chest is painted in black with raised three dot design on top and side; the back painted in black without motif. Both sides of drawers are painted in gold vertically; the drawers facing is painted in black with gold floral and three dots raised motif. Each drawer has double molded handles made of metal. The chest of drawers is made of wood. A set of two orange, braided tassels hang down from the top 2 handles. Cii: A miniature chest is painted in black on back; raised gold floral motif on the displaying side, a braided orange tassel is pasted on the upper center of th lid which has gold band around the sides and display side. T he back is left without gold motif. The chest is made of wood. Ciii, iv: A set of two miniature jewel boxes is made of wood, painted in black with raised three dot gold design on front and sides. The orange braided tassel extends from the back and rests in front. Cv: The base is made of wood and covered by red silk damask of four-lightening design. All chests are attached to the base; two jewel boxes are guled to the top of chest but one is loose. D: A miniature mirror stand and sewing kits are made of wood, painted in black with gold designs on top, sides and front. The back is left in plain black. A miniature missor is suspended by two posts and attached by two metal pins keeping the mirror to different angles. The mirror appears to be genuine: It is set in a wooden case, facing rim painted in gold, the sides and the back painted black. Two posts painted gold on facing side, gold patterened on the side, and black on the back. The top of the stand and facing sides of drawers are decorated with gold sun and three-dots motif. It has two drawers with one metal handle each and a metal pull for a cupboard. The handles are molded and silver coated. The metal pull is stationary. A miniature sweing kit is made of wook, painted in black with gold sun and three do designs on top, sides, and front of two drawers with each metal handle. The handle of the lower drawer is corroded and finishing silver coating is peeling off. Needle cushion stand extends high above thedrawers, working both asbasting and pinning tool. A base is made of wood, covered with red damask silk with four-thunder/lightening motif. Items are attached to the base. E: A miniature food container and stand. A miniature 4-tier food container with lid and its stand is made of wood painted in black with gold design. L: 1 15/16"; W: 1 15/16"; H: 1 15/16". Ei: A miniature 4-tier food container is decorated in gold sun and 3-dot motif on top and display side; 3-dot design on three remaining sides. The bottom is painted in plain black. Eii: A miniature stand for Ei above has 3-dot design in gold on all sides except the display side which has sun and 3-dot designs in gold. Top of the stand is painted in orange-red, rimmed in gold. All four sides have cut outs in a shape of a cloud. Orange and white cords tie the 4-tier "Oris" (square container) and the ends are knotted on top of the ori. F: Miniature bowls on base. L: 1 7/8"; W: 1 3/16"; H: 5/8". A set of two miniature bowls made of wood, painted in black with gold design of a cherry blossom in front and 3-dot design on the rest. Inside is shallow and has ridge painted in dark red. The both bowls are attached to the red silk damask covered base. G: Miniature magic wand. L: 1.25"; W: .875". A gold miniature magic wand appears to be made of man-made molded material. Two of the Seven Lucky Gods are molded on one each on sides. Blue cord is tied to the top loop. (This item does not belong to the Girls Day Doll Festival.) The wand is shaped like a keg shape with a handle flaring out wide at the base. This is supposed to be carried by one of the Seven Lucky Gods.
