Fan - Artifacts

Description
Flat roundish fan The handle of the fan is shaped from bamboo with one smooth, flat side displaying a brown design of concentric circles, the handle is split into many narrow slats which extend outward forming the upper part of the fan; a u-shaped piece of bamboo goes through a hole in the upper handle and is jointed to the narrow bamboo slats with a twined thread; both sides of the fan are covered with paper which is wider at the top than the bottom and has a curved bottom exposing the narrow slats; a blue and white checkered paper trim goes around the outside of the white paper, purple rounded tabs cover the bottom of the trim. On the back side the paper is opaque and has a logo printed in purple near the top, underneath is "UWAJIMAYA since 1928, Fresh groceries and gifts from east & west, (kanji), Seattle/Bellevue"; on the front side the paper is transparent with faint horizontal lines and showing from behind are irises in purple and rose color with yellow centers and green leaves, on the left are two small goldfish.
