Sign - Artifacts

Description
Square wood sign with a single Chinese character, "Hong" and an outer border in low relief. The sign is made from a single piece of wood. The wood has bowed in the middle. It also has split in several places, particularly on the middle right side and the lower left side. The central Chinese character and the outer square border (approximatley .75' from the outer edge of the sign) are painted in gold color. The space beyond the border and along the sides of the sign are painted red. The space within the border is painted black. The natural grain and contour of the wood has been left to come through. The back of the sign is unpainted. It is quite darkened with dirt. The upper side of the sign is also unpainted. The right side of the sign has a green deposit from outside wear. The paint is also peeling along the side. The front of the sign has various white stains. The upper and lower edges of the sign have two holes each for hanging. Each hole is surrounded by a rectangular mark, presumably from the bracket used for attachment. The upper left area of the back side of the sign also has a small hole.
