Sign - Artifacts

Description
Sign Large rectangular which hangs horizontally. Background is painted black with three incised Chinese characters , Chang Ie Tang, painted in gold. This means: "Loyal Hall" and it was given by a disciple in January , 1894 to a temple or martial arts hall. On either side of the characters are sets of other engraved characters which have been covered with black paint. This sign has a wood carved frame attached to the front edges. The raised inner part of the frame has a leafy pattern which has been created by (plaster) applied to the wood. The outer part of the frame is pierced with a row of holes and around the holes are leafy shapes and flower petals. The frame was once painted gold but is now dark brown in places. The frame is held to the sign with three 1x3 boards, the third one is missing. At the top of one brace is screw eye with wire wound around it. Condition: plaster has fallen from the wood on the frame in the lower right hand corner and other places. The wood on the top of the frame has been chipped away in two places.
