Painting - Artifacts

Description
Water color painting with mat and frame. A: The painting shows man dressed in green military uniform with a pointer showing a framed picture of two people to a crowd standing by him. The crowd has backs to viewer and consists of girls in short blue skirts, boys dressed in green shorts. One girl and two women hold babies. One has patterned sarong and carries small boy dressed in military outfit on her back. To the right is a man leaning on back part of bicycle. On the left is woman squatting down and holding small child and a dog lays beside her. At upper left and lower right written kanji and red seals. In upper left corner "Sanzo" seal (name of painter) "Kami Shibai" picture showing theater; in lower right "original picture producing company Kyoto Hanga-in". Representing wartime (early part of Showa period), older men and boys may wear a military style uniform. Painting removed from frame B: Paper card mat with beveled inner edge and peppbly cream surface. The acid in the card is turning the mat yellow and has left yellowed edges on the painting. C: Glass of the picture frame. 15.5" X 19.75". D: Wooden frame with bamboo veneer on the front it is painted yellow on the sides. Metal tabs on back to hold back board and pinting. Metal braces at corners. A picture wire is attached to two screw eyes. E: Backing board made of thin plywood. 15.5" X 20".
