Description
Battledore - Hagoita with Padded Figure. Wooden paddle is carved with a wide top and narow hndle at the bottom. Handle is covered with black corderoy. Front has padded figure applied to a background made of card covered with silk. The shapes of the figure are made from card which is padded nad covered with silk fabric. th efigure is a woman with painted features, black silk thread for hair, with red silk scarf at the back, stripped white and purple silk scarf tied under chin at front, and a silver ornament with red wisteria painted on the front. Her kimono is made of padded red silk crepe with blossoms painted in pink, yellow and blue. The obi is orange and gold brocade with flowers, fans and water. The two silk covered hands have details painted in pink and she is holding a hobby horse made of white padded silk, with a red, white and silver collar, orange cord bridle, and a blue, white and gold striped rein. The background of peach silk has painted plum blossoms in gold, pink, blue and red. Small brass colored bell is wired to gold painted flower. figure pojects forward from background and is held by woooden blocks. Four nails hold figure in place. On the reverse is a painting of a pink and white flower with green leaves and brown design.
