Wood Block Print Cards - Artifacts

Description
Wood Block Print Cards Used as Post Cards or Greeting Cards. A: Print of three children in kimono with chichi - go - san festival dress. Seven year old dressed in multi colored kinomo with black and white obi, Five year old boy has black haori with orange and blue plaid bottom and stripped hakama, holding candy bag. Three year old wearing red kimono with pattern of origami cranes. Black kanji and red seal in front of streamers in lower right hand corner. On the back printed in red in English: "Postcard Dressed up for November Festival of Children's Shrine Visiting" Stamp red colored showing castle and 14.00 ? B: Wood block print card showing three thached roof houses with river and dyke inbetween them. Two people walk along path and bridge, carrying bundles, trees and hills in the background. Colors used, blue, grey, tan, red, yellow, green and purple and brown. Grey colored kanji at lower left corner. No printing on back, may have been for gift. C: Wood block print card showing blue Mt. Fuji with snow, pink cherry blossoms in middle ground, green trees and grass in foreground. Red seal in lower right hand corner. On the back in blue, English: "Postcard" D: Wood Block Print showing a red torii gate standing in water with a man in a boat nearby. Green hills and purple mountains in background. Red seal in lower right hand corner same as C. "Postcard" printed on back. E: Wood Block Print of green hills with black reeds growing from white water in foreground. Red kanji in upper tight hand corner, black kanji in lower corner. On the back in black, English: "Postcard, Unsodo - Co". F: Wood Block Print card with man in foreground dressed in green short cloak, blue leggings and sandals. He is carrying grey box on back on which orange face mask - Tengu - is attached. Mask has yellow eyes, long nose and blue teeth, surrounded by purple and orange decorations. In the middle ground is blue harbor with grey stone quay with white and grey building and grey boats. In back is yellow and green hill. On the back printed in English: "Postcard" and kanji. Outside on grey road is man in blue carrying straw hat and staff, behind is a greyhill, green fields and grey trees. Sky is bright red shading into pink and has black kanji and two red seals on left. Grey kanji on back. N: Wood Block Print pasted onto Card showing scene of travellers entering village one on horseback, village surrounded by trees, grey hills and fields and blue harbor. Accents of yellow, red and blue. Yellow and grey sky, black kanji with two red seals on upper left. Grey kanji on back. O: Wood Block Print Card showing a boat on river with large sail and loaded with cargo, smaller boat in foreground. Background grey thached roof buildings, riverbank and trees. Stormy blue grey skies with grey diagonal rain lines. Two red seals in lower right hand corner, grey kanji on back. P: Wood Block Print Card of people crossing bridge in rain. Raft in middle of river behind bridge, grey skies and tree sillouetes in background, black lines of rain, accents of yellow, blue and brown. Copy of print by Hiroshige, Number 52 on Hundred Famous Views of Edo, Entitled "O - hashi No Yudachi" (Storm on Great Bridge over Sumida river.) Original produced in 1857. Grey Kanji on back. Q: Postcard of Vincent Van Gogh's version of Hiroshige print Storm on the Great Bridge. shows people crossing bridge, green water and blue sky. Surrounded by green frame trimmed with red. Copies of kanji characters on outside. Printed on back: "Vincent Van Gogh 1853 - 1890, Japonaisere (naar Hiroshige), De brug, Le Pont, The bridge, Edition Stedelijk Museum, corrected with the original painting." 5.75" X 4.25" R: Wood Block print card yellow and brown resort buildings surrounding blue river with green mountains in background, black kanji and red seal in lower left hand corner. On the back is red English: "Postcard, A hot spring view in early summer" Jozankei Hokkaido, Kanji." S: Wood Block Print on white card an apprentice geisha (miako)has her back to viewer and is facing covered bridge in background. She is in black kimono with red and blue designs a large green obi with yellow and blue leaves and holds a pink parasol. On either side are red maple leaves. On the back in English: "Postcard and black kanji." T: Wood Block Print resembling paper cut of building with tiled roof, canopys set up to create market with people in front. the colors from dark brown to orange, tan at the bottom with accents of green and red. Red seal in lower right corner. On the back in faded red printed in English" Postcard, Nibumikumo Ishihara Kyoto. " U: Wood Block Print resembling paper cut of pagoda style building in center and in front is street with building on each side and telephone wires above. Colors from brown to tan with accents of green, blue and red. Red seal in lower right corner. On the back in faded red printed in English" Postcard, Nibumikumo Ishihara Kyoto. " V: Wood Block Print showing figure of woman carrying a bundle of twigs on her back. She is wearing short black kimono, blue appron and arm protectors, white leggings and yellow sandals. the red seal in lower left corner is same as C & D. On the back is printed in English "Postcard". W: Wood Block Print Greeting Card shows scene of elderlky woman spining yarn across from young boy on floor grilling mochi. Lower right is fire pit and behind them are shoji doors whitch are open to reveal snow capped mountain and bonsai on the veranda. Black kanji in upper left corner.
