Tenugui - Artifacts

Description
This TENUGUI is white. The top and bottom edges are finished off the bolt and the left and right edges are not hemmed. A scene of 5 children playing is represented in the center of the piece in stencil dye method. The children all have hairstyles traditional to the Edo period. The child to the far left wears a red kimono with flower and lattice pattern and green obi. She wears red ZORI. The second child from the left wears a plaid motif brown outfit with a green vest. and indigo ZORI. The third child from left wears a red striped kimono and green obi with red zori and the fourth child wears a green kimmobno with cloud pattern and red obi with indigo ZORI. These children are playing a game which looks like TORYANSEI (a game similar to London Bridge), represented by each of them hanging on to the clothes of the child in front of them. A child faces them from the right wearing a green kimono, red vest adn red ZORI
