Robe - Artifacts

Description
A woman's Short Coat Black silk damask with floral medallions and swastika pattern. Embroidered in red ink, blue, grey, mauve, beige, and white. Scattered motifs. Motifs include: Flower baskets with peonies, plum blossoms, lotus flowers, and flywhisks with double fish. Interspersed with flower baskets are peonies, bats, chrysanthemums, grapes, butterflies. Symbols represent marriage, fertility, happiness, longevity, and house management. Around the neck line and across the front, the hem and side slits are gold couched bands in the shapes of clouds. The bands have cloud shape medallions with silk embroidered figures, flowers, buildings, in green, fuschia, pink, red, blue, and grey. Along edges of the band are embroidered blue stars, within gold couched honeycombed designs the bands are bound with black silk and in the corners they create a reverse applique cloud design. to the inside of these bands is applied machine woven blue purple, green, white and beige ribbon with butterfly motifs. The robe is collarless, has a front opening which closes on the side with three fabric ball buttons and corresponding loops. The square sleeves have a blue floral damask band which is embroidered on the front with silk motifs. These include flower vases, peaches, lotus, and the wheel done in red, green, blue and grey forbidden stitch outlined with gold couching. The coat is fully lined with plain blue silk . On the inside right front is a paper label with black ink markings.
