Robe - Artifacts

Description
Chinese Robe altered for Western Wear Green silk gauze with self woven medallions containing floral designs. robe opens in front with side closing and has sleevews which extends straight from the shoulders. There are slits on the side and no collar. A black gauze woven band with embroidered designs including green, yellow and purple butterflies, and blue and green flowers and are applied around the neckline across the front, down the side slits and around the sleeve hems. These bands are bound with black bias silk and to the outside is a machine woven band with white background, blue, fuschia and green butterflies and flowers, green, mauve and purple edging, At the side slits the gauze band is shaped into a cloud formations and is trimed with a narrow white, gold, blue and purple band. On the sleeves next to band is machine woven band similar to the one on the front. The inner part of lower sleeve is lined with white gauze fabric which is embroidered with green, gold and blue plum blossoms and a butterfly. Sleeve ends are folded back so that the white gauze appears as a band beneath the black gauze band. Four brass ball buttons are stitched with piping to the left front following the curve of the opening. Matching black loop closures are stitched to the front. A hole is torn in the front right sleeve.
