Nagajuban Underkimono - Artifacts

Description
Woman's Ivory Silk Nagajuban Underkimono Long body and short sleeves with very slightly rounded corners and opening at edge closest to the body. Long straight collar extends half way down the body and is wide so it can be folded in half lengthwise (tacked in place). Unlined except for the sleeves. The sleeves, eri (collar), front panels and bottom quarter of the robe are fine plain weave ivory colored silk while the upper 3/4 of the body are ivory colored silk habutae and handstitched. Yuzenzome design extends halfway up front exterior and interior. Yuzenzome (past resist lines, hand painted) in brown, blue, blue grey, green in various shades and beige. Bamboo motif with brown mottled stalks and thin green branches growing from bottom accented with gold satin embroidery; bamboo leaves are executed in various designs: green leaves with gradation of color and blue grey leaves have a bamboo grass design; cream colored embroidered flecks. Formal nagajuban worn under a kimono.
