Obi Age Sash - Artifacts

Description
Yellow and rust colored silk obi age Narrow fine plain woven silk sash dyed rust and yellow with kanoko shibori ("fawn spot" tyi dying) in wide alternating bands to create a striped effect. To create the crinkled effect white silk is prepared by tying white cotton thread around pinches of fabric in a design resembling spots on a fawn. The piece is then dip dyed and when dry the threads are removed, creating white spots where the thread resisted the dye. This obi agi was pressed only slightly so that the fabric shrinks up to a narrower width in the "striped" sections. There is a band of crinkled shibori at each end of the obi. The rust color bands are edged in white and the fawn spots within the bands form a sort of zig-zag design. There are some brown colored stains throughout the obi age, otherwise condition is good. The obi age is tied oabove and tucked into the top of the obi. The bright color is appropriate for a younger woman to wear.
