Description
Balance scale in wood and glass case. Case is stained light wood (pine?) with glass top. It is hinged 1/4 way down. The scale mechanism is within the bottom 3/4 and is covered by a sheet of glass which is black except for a band in the middle which displays the gradations. Two shafts protrude through the glass to hold the balance cups [B & C]. The cup holders have pointers which register on a wooden level guage in the center of the scale. It is attached by a metal piece which screws into the glass sheet. On the end of the metal holder is a level bubble to record the level of the scale. On the right side of the box a metal knob protrudes which controls a fork for manipulating the weight on the scale gradation. The bottom of the case has a bottom cornice which angles out. Attached to the bottom are two screw legs extending out to the left and the right. A third leg is under the box in the back. A metal sign on the front indicates the maker: "Henry Tromner Philadelphia, PA., U.S.A. Cap. 4 oz. No. W-33-0CL.A" Serial number 2734. A sticker on the top of the glass, "State of Washington Board of pharmacy weights and Balances". Written on the balance is, "5/4/95 RH, 11/6/96 RH".
