Description
Basketry model boat used for Ikebana Flower arrangements. Oval shaped bottom hexagonal weave bamboo with oval shaped bamboo foot. Sides are random weave supported by wider strips of bamboo stiffeners. Twisted bamboo strip rim is attached to a wooden branch forming the prow of the front. A peaked roof covers the front half of the boat. and is made of plain weave bamboo tied to a bamboo ridge pole with thin stripes of bamboo. A piece of strapping tape is holding thin stips where they have broken underneath. A semi - circular shape cover at the back is made of bamboo, plain weave, at the stern a Y - shaped branch is tied with bamboo strands at the upper back. On the bottom printed in green, "Japan". A lacquered piece of tape is attached to the bottom and written in blue ink, "To Marjorie Uno From Mrs. Violet Johnson, January 27, 1956."
