Description
Miniature basketry fishing creel used for Ikebana. The main body of the basket is woven from reeds with double stakes and single weavers in a plain weave except in the front where a lozenge shape pattern is formed with three weavers. The back is straight and supported by a bamboo frame; on each side a hole is woven in to accommodate a strap for carrying. The front of the basket is lower than the back. The rim is braided. The lid is the same weave as the main body and is supported on a bamboo frame with a bamboo wrapped handle tied to the top of the lid with bamboo strips. The lid is attached to the back with bamboo strips. The fastener in the shape of a bamboo rod slider is attached to the top of the lid and moves forward to connect with a reed loop on the front of the basket. On the bottom is stamped in blue "Made in Hongkong".
