Description
Chest of Drawers made in Japanese American internment camp Wood from fruit crates and scrap lumber, 4 drawers with horizontal wooden knobs screwed on, top made of a wide and narrow plank, back made of 5 horizontal planks of various sizes, base is a rectangular frame of horizontal planks set out from body at sides with a cut out design of double sword shape, double walled sides are reinforced with a frame in a rectangle and cross shape as a decorative element, interior sides rails for drawers, each drawer has two vertical wooden bars inside front joints except bottom drawer E which has 4 vertical supports, composed of a number of types of wood, fruit crate slats for bottom (upper drawer B has loose slats), Drawer C has the remains of a white sticker with black lettering on its interior left side which is only partially legible and appears to refer to a Swift and Company meat product. The exterior top, sides and front of the chest have been stained reddish brown and varnished.
