Description
Pair of Basketry Vases with inserts Ai: Bamboo, four corner vertical supports made of bamboo strips fastened to basket and becomes 4 legs at the bottom, double wall basket square shaped, inner walls are plain woven with narrow bamboo strips, bottom stakes bend up to the sides, the outside wall of hexagonal weave in mottled finish and lacquered, two twined borders at top and bottom, the rim has a double wrapped edge with two wrapped looped handles on either side. On the front side a design has been created by shaping three strips to resemble bamboo leaves and inserting them into the inner wall; a very thin bamboo branch is curved around to represent a bamboo branch. The bottom is supported with two strips of bamboo crossed and inserted at the corners of the basket. Aii. Metal insert H: 4" Di: 3". Tin cylinder soldered on one side, slants inward near the bottom, soldered to a tin disk. The rim has been bent out slightly. Interior has been painted a rust color and is chipping in places. On the bottom the numbers "25" has been written in red. Used as an insert for the basket to hold water and flowers. Bi.
