Description
Shallow square basket with inverted U-shaped handle used for Moribana style Ikebana flower arranging. Woven of reed dyed dark brown and lacquered bamboo. Bottom is plain open weave with shorter reeds inserted to fill in the spaces. The bottom stakes extend up the four sides and bamboo weavers are woven over-one under-one except on one side where a diagonal pattern is created by weaving over-two and under-one. The rim is made of bamboo strips fastened on either side of the stakes with a bamboo wrapping. The handle is made of two narrow pieces of bamboo which cross in the center separated and are inserted into the weaving at the sides of the basket. The handle is nailed into the rim on both sides.
