Description
a. Fan case w/ fan enclosed. Beige satin silk fan cover w/blk satin bottom. Silk, multi-colored heavily embroidered designs on both sides, various stitch styles are applied, mostly knots with gold outline couched thread. Some of the motifs are stuffed to create a 3-dimensional effect. Some of the images are temples, dragons of the clouds?, an egg representing the yin and yang. b. The fan is made up of 9 bamboo ribs which represents a man's fan. The two outer ribs are of carved bird motifs and painted black on the outer sides the inner 7 ribs are of natural bamboo. The fan has applied beige paper w/ a gold outer trim, the painted motif is various bird scenes showing eight different birds, 1 on ea. panel. Far left panel is of a wht goose in water w/Chinese characters at the top, The 2nd panel is a bird in pine tree, 3rd are of two water fowl birds in water, 4th is a B/W bird in a pomagrant tree, 5th a white long legged bird in a tree, 6th panel is two white birds in water, 7th panel is of 2 yellow birds on a tree branch, 8th panel is of 4 birds on and above wood fencing or piers. Opposite side of the fan has blk painted calligraphy w/ gold and copper paint splatterings throughout. This fan is held together with a metal pin at the base. Fan spread 19" (48-1/4 cm).
