Description
Chinese bamboo woven hat. Natural colored hat composed of two layers of open hexagonal weaving with a layer of palm leaves held firmly in between. The crown is capped with a lighter colored bamboo woven into the hexagonal weave. There is a stiff bamboo rim lashed on the bottom edge. Where the bamboo rim overlaps itself it is wrapped closely with thin strips of bamboo. The hat is circular and dome shaped with a smaller dome at the top. There are Chinese characters printed on pink paper woven into the inside of the hat. Natural straw hat worn by Sado Island dancers. With brown dyed straw near edge and near top center sewn together with straw strands. Hat is held under chin with red ribbon which goes through crown of hat. The hat is circular but worn in a half circle shape with pointed ends front and back, hiding the face.
