Doll - Artifacts

Description
Boy's Day Doll, Samurai of middle rank. A: Separate head moulded from wood paste and dipped in gofun which is slightly pinkish color (indicating his rank or social station). Painted black upswept eyebrows and feathery lower eyelashes, painted red pursed lips, painted gray area on chin, inset black glass eyes. Hair is made of black silk fiber pulled into a topknot on top of his head, bound and tied in a bow with purple silk cord. His pate is shaved in a v-shape in the center. The hair in front of his ears (sideburns) is cut so that it puffs out. The hairline is painted in front, sides and back. B: Sitting body with arms bent at elbows and hands shaped to hold something; they are wood covered with gofun, finely molded with fingernails.Feet are almost touching in front. Hands are finely molded with fingernails. Feet are white painted wood. Clothing: Top of robe is brocade with white background and gold pattern of floral and vines. Long narrow sleeves are tied at wrists with beige cotton thread. Brown binding around sleeve edges. There are three of-white collars at neckline. Front and back upper armour is brown cardboard painted to look like metal with brown bumpy surface. It has gold metal horizontal stripes with patterned strips at top and bottom. There is a large brown metal circle with a hole in the middle on the center is a snake-eye mon (Ja-name). Across the top is a brown metal strip with a three arrowhead like design. The front and back armour is attached at the shoulders by a fabric covered stiff strip. The fabric is orange brocade with desigh of gold hexagonals bordered with blue and white herringbone cord. Where the shoulder straps attach over front of armour is a circular boss of chrysanthemun design with a ring in the center. There is a white silk sash tied in the front in a bow with gold cord fringe. Hakama is tan silk brocade with brown phoenix and floral design, lined with orange silk crepe (visible where open on sides). His lower textured papier mache armour is five sets of four plates laced together with green cord. The plates are cardboard painted to look like bumpy metal with black around the edges and back side. The top edge has metal band of egg and dart design (Some are missing). The bottom plates have a similar metal design along bottom as the top front of upper armour. There are three sets of armour plate at the front and two at the back. The back upper armour is plain with two large black rivets attaching the shoulder straps. C: Sword: L: 5.625" Brown painted wood with embossed metal guard and handle. Also metal tip at bottom of scabbard. Through a hole in the handle is a purple silk cord with metal ends. Condition: Armour is chipped. Top metal pieces are mostly missing. Feet are cracked and something is missing from right hand.
