Doll - Artifacts

Description
Boy's Day Doll depicting a Daimyo A: Figure of kneeling male with a moveable head (which doesn't separate) molded from wood paste and dipped in gofun (oyster shell powder), pale face with slightly pink cheeks, painted black upswept eyebrow, carved red painted downturned mouth, large inset black and white glass almond shaped eyes; black silk fiber hair swept up in top knot bound with white cotton thread, hair leans over bald pate at front (hair at back is disintegrating). Body in kneeling position with right arm extended toward front and left arm forward resting on thigh; both hands are carved wood dipped in gofun and fingers are curled as if to hold a fan. The clothing consists of an outer kimono open at the front and tucked into the waist, medium blue unidentified fabric in an open weave with heavy weft with white resist motifs (Matsukawa bishi no wari, triple diamond pattern)--2 each across the collarbones, across the upper back and bands of the motif on the front and back of the sleeves, the arms are not in the large sleeves which hang to the back; Nagabakama pants of the same fabric with white motifs across the lap and back, the very long legs extend beyond the feet (pants legs are walked on when standing up); Obi belt around the waist of the same fabric goes through a loop on the back and tied into a bow on the front. The next kimono is a tan and gold silk brocade with a pattern of leaves and diamonds surrounded by six dots, shows at the padded sleeves with white silk lining and shows as a banded collar over the chest; another collar beneath this is blue and gold silk brocade with a leafy pattern; two undercollars of white damask silk with diamond pattern around neck and under armour (same fabric as sleeve lining). On the chest is Hara-ate amour (yoroi)--chestplate made of three panels gold painted papier mache armour laced with green silk cord and has a metal band across the top engraved with a moon or sun across the center, plants growing on either side, 2 decorative cut outs and a curved bottom edge, held by black cloth covered paper simulated leather shoulder straps and attached to the chestplate with metal bosses. B: Kaza-ori Eboshi hat , H: 2.875", Diam: 2", made black painted textured paper with a band of white silk damask around the bottom and a bow in the back, top is bent down toward the back; two holes on either side of the hat were for a cord but it is missing and a green cord is threaded through the bow and tied around the neck.
