Miniature baton, ( Saihai) The baton is made from a wood dowel painted with glossy black paint. At each end is a metal cylindrical fitting with a scalloped edge and embossed vine design. These fittings and metal caps are held on by rivets. On the side at one end is a large paper tassel in beige and faded red. Attached with a chrysanthemum shaped metal boss and two rings. At the other end a purple and white silk braided cord is tied in a decorative knot and ends in a tassel. Condition: gold colored coating on the metal fittings is deteriorating.
