Chair - Artifacts

Description
Barber chair, Koken brand, made in St. Louis. Foot board has cast iron face with name "Koken" in center. Reverse side of foot rest is padded leather. Circular, cast iron base from which rise cylinder with mechanism for raising or lowering chair. Base of the seat is of heavy dark wood with carved side pieces with floral patterns. Arm supports of heavy dark wood with tacked on covers of green oil cloth. Back of the chair has dark heavy wood frame with leather padded front and back. Back board of the foot rest also of same type wood with oval padded leather cushion in the center. The separate sections are joined by plated, heavy cast iron numbers. On the right side of the chair is a larger lever for raising or reclining the chair. White paint spot on leather back. The chair was kept in a house basement for many years. The owner's daughter cleaned and polished the chair for the permanent exhibit.
