Handkerchief - Artifacts

Description
Square white cotton or bast fiber handkerchief with drawn work and needle woven medallions. Overall pattern is symmetrical, consisting primarily of a central square flanked by drawn work meander patterns and triangular shpaes pointing toward each corner. Each side is decorated with a drawn work heart surrounded by tiny embroidered flowers. Each corner is decorated by an oval needle woven medallion surrounded by tiny embroidered flowers and leaves. Embroidered knots are interspersed with drawn work meanders. A paper tag printed in red on white was removed from the handkerchief and placed in the donor file. It read "MADE IN CHINA" and listed the number ('No. 56') and size ('Size 11" ').
