Robe - Artifacts

Description
Man's Shibai Robe Robe has overall appearance of "Kariginu" (see THE BOOK OF KIMONO, p. 35) worn by Shinto priests or Emperor. Two overlapping panels in front with high neck and stand-up collar with a knotted button and purple loop closure, long rectangular shaped sleeves attached at upper back. Silk brocade in 2-tone tan and light brown; design of scallops and circles with peonies inside the circles, vertical curved rope-like lines connect the circular designs, narrow short curved lines connect the circular designs, narrow short curved lines fill the space between two verticals giving and impression of a running stream. Tan colored braids threaded through 16 loops at sleeve ends. Robe is lined with cream colored cotton. CONDITION: Brown spots and holes in lower left sleeve; blue stains on sleeves and front panels; brown spots on back lining.
